How to Select a Vehicle  Wheelchair Lift

Written by Marx Medical Equipment | 4/12/21 2:15 PM

Wheelchair lifts for cars come in a variety of styles and price points for consumer and commercial vehicles. Power wheelchair and scooter users have the ability to move around their homes or even the garden, with the aid of home modifications or with the support of a caregiver. Moving in locations close to home is also possible, but going outside to places that a car is needed, is completely different.

Why Get a Power Chair Car Lift?

  • Convenience — Take your power chair or scooter along when driving across town to see your doctor or while visiting loved ones out of State! Just hitch your power wheelchair lift to your car and load your power chair. The convenience of a chair lift for vehicles means you'll never have to go anywhere again without your power wheelchair.
  • Simplicity — Wheelchair lifts for vehicles are light and compact. It is also a breeze to use. Simply lower the lift's platform to the ground, drive your wheelchair onto the lift and secure it. With one-finger, one-switch operation, your power chair is raised and you're ready to hit the road.
  • Personal Safety — Auto Lifts are designed to safely transport a power chair, scooter, or manual wheelchair on a vehicle. The specific lift you choose depends on the combination of vehicle, hitch class, mobility device, and your physical capabilities.

The Types of Vehicle Lifts are:

  • Inside Auto Lifts/Hoists

Inside Lifts are mounted in the vehicle’s cargo area with a hoist mechanism that swings outside the vehicle to load and lift the mobility device into the vehicle.

  • Outside Lifts

An Outside Auto Lift is attached to the vehicle by means of a hitch and consists of an actuator and platform which secures and carries the mobility device on the back of the vehicle.

  • Hybrid Auto Lifts

Hybrid Lifts are mounted in the vehicle’s cargo area but are designed to move out and down so that the mobility device is loaded onto the platform on the ground. It is then lifted automatically into the vehicle for transport.
